käthe kollwitz, 1865-1945

'german graphic artist and sculptress. nearly all of the lithographs, etchings and engravings produced by kathe kollwitz are protests against suffering, hunger and pain in the life of the poor, and against the privations and separations caused by the two world wars. her social criticism made her unpopular in wilhelm ii's era, and during hitler's rule she was forbidden to exhibit her works.'
